What format is the output?

Always JPG — the compression works by re-encoding the image, which is what makes the size reduction possible. If your source has transparency (a PNG), that transparency is lost, since JPG doesn't support it.

What quality setting should I use?

70% is a reasonable starting point for most photos — visually close to the original at a meaningfully smaller size. Drag the slider lower for more savings, or higher if you start seeing visible artifacts.

Can I compress a PNG?
