TechDriven Tools' tools run entirely in your browser. This has real benefits (privacy — see the Privacy Policy) but also real limits worth knowing before you rely on it for something important.
Output quality
- Compress re-encodes each page as an image, which shrinks file size but means text is no longer selectable or searchable afterward. This is intentional, not a bug — it's how the size reduction works.
- Redact flattens the page it's used on to an image, so hidden text is genuinely gone, not just visually covered. Pages without any redaction marks stay as the original vector page.
- Very large files (500+ pages) may process slowly or use significant memory, since everything happens in your device's RAM rather than on a server.
Not included, on purpose
Word/Excel/PowerPoint ⇄ PDF conversion and OCR (text recognition from scanned images) aren't included. Both genuinely require a server-side rendering engine — no browser library replicates them reliably — so rather than ship a version that half-works, they're left out entirely.
Always keep a backup
Before using any tool, keep a copy of your original file. TechDriven Tools doesn't store your files anywhere (there's nowhere for us to retrieve them from even if we wanted to), so if something goes wrong locally in your browser, the original file on your device is your only copy.
No professional advice
Nothing on this site constitutes legal, financial, or professional advice — including anything about document redaction, signatures, or metadata being sufficient for a specific legal or compliance requirement. If that matters for your use case, check with someone qualified for it.
