Should I use MD5 for security purposes?

No — MD5 is cryptographically broken and is offered here only for legacy checksum compatibility (matching a checksum an old system or vendor already published). It's implemented separately in JavaScript rather than through the browser's Web Crypto API, which deliberately doesn't include MD5 at all. Use SHA-256 or higher for anything security-related.

Which algorithm should I use?

SHA-256 is the standard default for most purposes; SHA-384/512 offer a larger digest where that's specifically required.

Is the same input always the same hash?

Yes — hashing is deterministic; identical input text with the same algorithm always produces the identical hash output.

Can I hash a file, or only text?

Only typed or pasted text — there's no file upload option for this tool.

Does capitalization or spacing change the hash?

Yes — hashing is exact; even a single different character, including case or whitespace, produces a completely different hash.

Why isn't Word/Excel/PowerPoint → PDF included?

Converting Office formats accurately needs a real rendering engine (what Word or LibreOffice use internally) — no browser library does this reliably. Rather than ship a broken version, it's left out.

Does TechDriven Tools have OCR (text recognition)?

Yes — OCR PDF recognizes text in scanned or photographed pages using Tesseract.js, running entirely on your device, and gives you a searchable PDF or a plain text file. Nothing is uploaded for this either.

Can I use this without an internet connection?

Once the page and its libraries have loaded once, yes — the tools themselves need no network access. Signing in and viewing history do require a connection, since those talk to Supabase.

What happens to the "history" if I sign in?
